Ishika Agarwal is from Agra, Uttar Pradesh. Most of us are in awe when we see “The Taj Mahal” but Ishika has been there so many times that she has lost her fascination towards the monument. Later on, she moved to Mathura, a city in Uttar Pradesh to pursue her higher studies. Currently, she lives in Noida and is also completing her graduation from GLA University. Alongside her studies, she is interning as an SDE at Springworks.
Let’s have a look at her story!
Why did you choose Software Development?
Since my childhood, I have had a fascination towards computers. I liked playing games and exploring things via the web. Although in school, I had few classes in computers, I always wanted to learn about programming and software development. I was never good at Physics but I liked Mathematics. Destiny has its way and it has led me here.
What do you do as a Software Development Intern at Springworks?
As a software development intern, I work for SpringRole. I am working towards redesigning, updating the website and developing the UI. Sometimes, I also do certain functionality-based tasks. Currently, I am learning about React.
What made you join Springworks?
I got recruited at Springworks through my campus placement. I had a lot of companies that came for campus recruitment and I attended a lot of interviews. But Springworks stood out for me. Although my university had given us time to complete our internship, I wanted to balance work and studies. Hence, I felt Springworks would be a great place to work. I loved reading reviews about the company on Glassdoor and LinkedIn.
How was your Hiring and Onboarding experience?
Hiring and Interview Process
Through our placement coordinators, we received an email that Springworks is looking for Interns. Springworks had conducted a coding exam and we were told the toppers would be selected for further rounds. After the coding exam when the results were declared, I found out that I had been selected for the next round. Then, I had two technical interviews. The difficulty level was on a higher note when compared to the coding exam. I had to write codes and also do certain tasks using SQL. Furthermore, I had my HR interview, where we spoke about work, interests and career. Over the weekend, I received my internship letter.
Onboarding and Training
I had my buddy and manager meetings a few days before my date of joining. I was oriented on my work and tasks. On my first day, I was onboarded and it was followed by a meeting with my team. Later in the evening, I was asked to start my training. My first few days, went in training and then I was given an assignment. I completed my assignment and I was onboarded again by my team. Furthermore, I was oriented on my projects.
What is your favorite thing about working at Springworks?
I really love the support and encouragement I receive from my teammates. They are always helpful and show me how to do things better. There are a lot of opportunities and tasks that help me learn new things. The work culture is positive and fun, which makes work a lot more exciting.
Walk us through a day in the life of Ishika
My day starts at 09:00 a.m. I start work at 10:00 a.m. I look over my pending tasks and then plan my schedule for the day. Due to my flexible work schedule, I work and study. We don’t have daily standup calls but my team collaborates together once a week. I take mini breaks and a 30-minute lunch break during the day. After work, I give my updates on Slack and log off for the day. Later in the evening, I go for a stroll in the park, connect with my friends and spend some time on Social media.
What are your takeaways and challenges from work?
To be honest, every day is a challenge for me. I set deadlines for myself and there are also a few deadlines for the project I am working on. When you are part of a development team, there is always scope for improvement. Sometimes, I need to read more or the code might not work. I might have to start my work from the beginning. But in the end, support and appreciation from my team cover the challenges I face. Amidst the challenges, I learn a lot of things. I want to be a full-stack developer in the near future and this internship is helping me towards it.
What is your favourite among the two products, EngageWith and Trivia?
I love Trivia as it gives me a break from work. Due to Trivia and its interesting games, I free my schedule and play the games launched on the #fun channel. I really want to see myself on the top of the leaderboard. I love meeting people online and connecting with them. So apart from Trivia, I look forward to the events organized by the company.
Sneak-Peek into your life outside Springworks!
I love reading about spirituality and watching videos on them. Over the weekend, I spend time with family and friends. On Sundays, I explore Noida and go partying. Once a month, I visit Agra and revisit my childhood memories.
