Life at Springworks: A Day In The Life Of A Business Development Manager

Born in Ahmedabad, Shalini spent her days here growing up and learning new things. She is fond of her hometown and enjoys all the festivities. She moved to Delhi for better career opportunities. Shalini holds an MBA from the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India. She has been associated with various companies where she gained more expertise in the background verification industry. Shalini loves to bake chocolates and has a knack for outdoor sports. At Springworks, she works as a business development manager.

Let’s have a look at her journey!

My journey at Springworks

I started to explore background verification and its processes in 2016 when I was associated with another company. This idea was interesting and I started to dwell more. I heard many more companies be it startups or corporate giants but one name that kept popping up was Springworks. That’s when I started to read about the company and the products and kept myself posted via LinkedIn. Post covid, I relocated to Bangalore and decided to give Springworks a try. The role was something I closely resonate with and I felt I could connect and contribute here.

I applied for the Business Development role and had my initial conversations with Rahul. I have seen many companies that said permanent remote and then switched to hybrid or back to the office. Springworks is one such company that started to adapt to remote work and I have seen flexibility and agility in everything they do. The entire hiring process was sleek and well-organised. The task assigned was thought-provoking as I had to work on my 90-day journey as a BDM. This added a lot of insights and helped me come up with an action plan for myself.

The interviews were great, and the culture and vision reflected well in these conversations. I understood what the company wanted to do and what our target should be. The entire process was well-processed. WhatsApp conversations with the team and HR made things very easy for him. I felt I was a part of the organisation even before my start date. The foundation was laid from the very beginning that instilled the confidence to over-communicate.

Springworks is really different. I have been here for a few months now and I have seen the company focus not on the growth of the organisation but also on its employees. There is a new task and challenge every day and it’s been a great journey so far.

What do I do as a Business Development Manager?

I look after enterprise sales here and work towards partnering with companies that have 500+ employees. My work involves a lot of cold reach outs, demos, onboarding clients, understanding their requirements and working to build a better pipeline and portfolio. My work isn’t easy but what makes it achievable is the support and guidance I have received.

Why do I love working at Springworks?

I love the culture of async communication here. It helps me save a lot of time and focus on priority tasks. And many things are solved in simple texts and conversations.

While I was applying for this role, there were many companies who offered the same position but Springworks had a magnetic pull because of its work culture, flexibility and benefits. I honestly feel there’s nothing better than enjoying remote work with a few benefits. My home is my office, I get to work based on my timings and enjoy little breaks and vacations.

My thoughts are heard and I receive great feedback be it positive or negative. This gives me a reality check and helps me to work on different areas and domains. Previously, at different companies to communicate to the top management there were channels and layers to connect with them. Here, I have the credibility and confidence to ask questions to anyone and voice out my input.

Irrespective of being remote, I get along well with my team and I talk to people across various teams. There is a great bond and we have developed a sense of comfort where we have each other’s back. I really appreciate everyone here who has helped me to get acquainted and they keep motivating me to achieve my goals. We share our milestones and failures.

The accountability and trust the management shows are commendable. This releases a lot of pressure and helps me to dive into the pain points and focus on resolving them. There are days when I log in late or take some time off and the team is very empathetic towards this. Usually, I work from 9:30 am to 06:30 pm but it varies depending upon the tasks and work.

The work environment and activities make work interesting and break the monotony. There are meet & greets, team lunches, HR activities, and Trivia games that make me get to know one another. Everybody is on the same page and we are aware of what’s happening in the company.

It’s been fun working at Springworks and I look forward to learning and growing more.

Sneak-Peek into my life outside Springworks

When I am not working, you can find me watching movies at the cinema hall. It’s been a few months since I moved to Bangalore, so I am exploring the city. Moreover, I search for places where I can get Korean food and good coffee. In the second half of the year, my plan is to explore hill stations in and around Karnataka.
