Life at Springworks: A day in the life of a Sales Intern

Asmita Chakraborty is from Kolkata, West Bengal. She completed her MBA in Pharmaceutical Management from Eastern Institute for Integrated Learning in Management, Kolkata. Later on, she moved to Baddi, Himachal Pradesh for work. Asmita has more than a decade of experience in pharmaceutical management. She decided to take a step back from her role and explore something new and challenging. Asmita started to work as a data entry intern and further moved to sales. Currently, she works as a sales intern at Springworks.

Let’s have a look at her journey!

What made you choose a new career?

Well, trying out different things is not what everyone understands. I have been told it’s a risky move, and I was always asked “why would you do something new when you have already established a path for yourself? The answer is simple. Although I have been in the pharmaceutical industry for over a decade, I felt I wasn’t being challenged nor could I see any growth. I wanted to challenge myself and see an improvement in my learning.

What do you do as a Sales Intern at Springworks?

I started my internship at Springworks as a Data Entry Intern. I used to do batching for the Burst Team. During the Bangalore retreat, I met a lot of people and I gained many perspectives. I wanted to try something new and after a few conversations and assignments, I moved to EngageWith as a sales intern. Throughout the day, I used to balance my work between the Burst team and EngageWith. I used to do cold calls, cold emails and reach outs for EngageWith. Now, I have transitioned from Burst to EngageWith, where I do lead qualification.

What made you join Springworks?

My previous work couldn’t help me balance my personal and professional life as I had to work during the pandemic. I got exhausted and wanted flexible working hours. Since I recently moved back from Baddi to Kolkata, I wanted remote work. Springworks checked all the boxes. It’s a great place to work especially for those who wish to try something new.

How was your Hiring and Onboarding experience?

This was seamless. I applied for the position and received a call from the hiring team. Then, I was updated on the process and what might happen over the week. I was given two assignments and then my interviews were scheduled. The interviews were great, and we discussed a lot of things. The follow-up calls and emails by the hiring team were commendable. Not many organizations take the effort to call and send emails. I had given a lot of interviews and everywhere I would receive automated emails. Springworks was different and interesting.

I received my offer letter and goodies from Springworks. Over the week, I met my buddy and manager. I was curious on my first day and gained a lot of insights into the company. After onboarding, I met my manager and team. Furthermore, my tasks and training modules were introduced.

What has been your best day at work so far?

Recently, when I started to work with the inside sales team for EngageWith, I do cold calls and schedule demos. There was this day when I was able to schedule 4 demos. I felt really productive and happy. Adding on to the best day at work, I would love to include the offsite held at JW Marriott. I got to network and meet a lot of them. I got to celebrate my birthday with everyone. It was a lot of fun.

Walk us through a day in the life of Asmita

I start work at 10:30 a.m and work till 07:30 p.m. During the day, when I take a break or go offline, I plan my schedule for the next day which helps me in managing my time. I take 5 to 10 mins during the day, where I listen to music to keep myself calm and pumped. My team and I have standup calls twice a week. After work, I take a stroll and explore restaurants nearby. I have dinner and then watch shows on OTT. I emotionally unwind before bed.

What do you like about working at Springworks?

There are a lot of things that I like about working here. The leave categories and employee benefits really help me in staying healthy and productive. I love the work ethic and culture. The culture really reflects in the employees. Everyone in my team is very supportive and kind. The company does a lot for the employees and I am really grateful.

What are your takeaways and challenges from work?

More than challenges, I learned a lot of new things. I moved from an in-office setting to remote work. I learnt the dos and don’ts of async communication. My Burst team made me understand the importance of time management and prioritising work. I am challenged and motivated to do my work. There has been a tremendous increase in my knowledge. I am more accountable and responsible. This is just the beginning. Over the next few years, I would like to lead a sales team but before that, I would like to explore all the domains of sales.

What is your favourite among the two products, EngageWith and Trivia?

EngageWith is the real game changer. Everyone in the company is humble and appreciative. It’s not only a morale boost but helps in networking and fosters better communication.

What motivates you at work?

I was a bit apprehensive when I started to work in sales. But as days went ahead, I really started to enjoy work. Talking to clients and convincing them gives me a sense of satisfaction. I feel motivated to close more deals and network.

Sneak-Peek into your life outside Springworks!

I do household chores and grocery shop over the weekends. My friends and I often meet and explore Kolkata. I rewatch my favorite shows which include “ Mirzapur, Game of Thrones, Big Bang Theory, and The Mentalist”. Currently, I watch “Shadow and Bone” and “Manifest”. I listen to BTS xD.
I am looking forward to visiting the Philippines and Germany and ticking them off my wish list.
