Life At Springworks: A Day In The Life Of An Operations Specialist

Dolly Agarwal is from Dalkhola, West Bengal. Since her childhood, she kept shifting from place to place to pursue her education. She stayed in a hostel until the age of 10 and later on moved to Kota, Rajasthan. Dolly has completed her Master of Arts in Education with honours from Calcutta University. During the lockdown period, she moved back home and started to work remotely. She worked as an SDS associate at Amazon and moved to Springworks. Dolly began her journey at Springworks as an Operations Intern and now she has been converted to Operations Specialist. She loves winters and baking.

Let’s have a look at her journey!

What motivated you to start your career in Operations?

There was always a question in my head “ Why shouldn’t I try this, maybe I am good at it ?”.
I honestly wanted to see myself as a doctor but due to a few constraints and changes in the exam modules, I couldn’t pursue it. I went on and did a master’s in education as teaching was my second interest. Until 2020, I was into teaching. Later on, the lockdown started and I wanted to spend time with my parents. Remote work and new opportunities were on my mind. I did a few internships in HR and marketing but the job description and opportunities at Springworks made me try Operations. It’s been a great learning experience so far.

What do you do as an Operations Specialist at Springworks?

As an operations specialist, I validate the information provided by the employees or clients with the documents they send. I add all the additional information and documents sent by the employees to initiate the verification. Apart from this I also collaborate with my teammates across various functions.

What do you like about working at Springworks?

The best part of working here is the flexibility. People respect my time and personal priorities. I have the scope to balance my work and personal needs. There are a lot of things I can do in my day. The work culture is great. What I like the most here is that our managers and CEO are very helpful. They always go the extra mile to help us grow. Not many companies do this.

What would you say about our Hiring and Onboarding process?

Although I did work with a few remote companies before, I can vouch that Springworks has the best hiring and onboarding process. The hiring team must be appreciated as they were very kind and followed up after every step. There was a lot of clarity in the entire process. There were two interviews scheduled and an assignment. I was told what to expect and when the feedback would be shared. I was selected for the Ops Intern role and received my offer letter. Later on, there was a Whatsapp group where I was officially welcomed to Springworks.

I received my welcome kit and had my buddy and manager meetings. On my first day, I had my induction and a team meeting. I was anxious as I didn’t know what to speak or share during the meeting. Further in the day, I was informed of my tasks and training. I shadowed a few processes and started work later in the week.

Walk me through a day in the life of Dolly

I start my day at 5 a.m. I hit the gym by 05:30 a.m. Workout is something I tend to not miss irrespective of how tired or worked up I am. I start my work with the Ops stand-up. Then, I start my work and complete my work by 7 pm. I do take breaks in between and watch a few minutes of any movie or read books. There are a few little irregularities in my schedule and I am trying to fix a routine.

Did you face any challenges with your work? If yes, how did you overcome them?

Yes, there were a few challenges. I am an introvert and as soon as I joined, Springworks was invited to the Bangalore retreat. I was really nervous as I met only my buddy and manager virtually. At the start, I used to do the work I was assigned and I never gave any input. But with time, I started to take lead and give my opinions. I have learned a lot of things and concepts. Talking to my teammates and the manager really helped me a lot. It opened up a lot of opportunities and perspectives. The best thing I learnt is, we need to ask what we want and always explore.

What was one of the best moments you had at Springworks?

On the eve of Diwali, a few of my teammates were on leave and there was a task that had to be completed. Sukrutha had assigned it to me and asked me to hand it over by Monday. I knew I won’t be able to work on the weekends therefore I stayed up till 12:30 a.m. and completed the task. Surprisingly, Sukrutha was still online and appreciated me for my work. I received kudos. It made me feel really good as my hard work paid off.

Among EngageWith and Trivia, which is your personal favourite?

I love both of the products. They both serve different purposes. Getting appreciated for the work you do and giving credit to others for their help is absolutely wonderful. Springworks has fostered a great culture. Trivia beats my Monday blues and makes work fun when things get monotonous.

Sneak- Peek into your life outside Springworks

After 5 days of work, I complete a few pending tasks over the weekends. Netflix and movies are definitely on my schedule. I love watching psychological thrillers and web series based on the same genre. Apart from this, I read a lot of stories and spend time with my family. I am really looking forward to the Goa trip. This year, I want to go on a solo trip to Ladakh.
