Being a Finance Executive must require you to keep updated about the financial world. How do you do that?

I read financial literature, business periodicals and more. I keep myself aware of what new tax law is being proposed, whether the laws pass and how those changes might affect the taxpayers.

I also speak to other professionals in the accounting and tax arena which is a great way to keep your skills sharp.

How did your education or past experiences prepare you for this job?

I am a Bachelor’s in management and I had the subject of accounting and taxation in one of my semesters and from there, my interest started to develop in this domain.

I also used to handle my uncle’s business account during my college days. That’s how I actually started getting hands-on experience in accounting and taxation.

Do you face any challenges in your job?

Ever since the GST has come into effect, it has hurled many guidelines on finance executives to follow. We are supposed to reconcile our books to check the GST and file monthly returns under it.

Also, the income-tax regimes change every year, so it is pertinent to keep track of every small aspect of it.

What advice would you give to someone working in the same line?

Try to meet all the deadlines if you work as a finance executive or else it might end up charging a penalty if you even miss out on a day to file the GST return.

Try to yourself updated about the financial world, maintain an accounting report and keep all the books of the account updated.
