Life at Springworks: A day in the life of a Software Development Engineer

Mohit is a resident of Kolkata, the city of joy! He completed his Bachelors in Technology from SRM University, Chennai and moved ahead to work with Tata Consultancy Services for 2 years before becoming a part of Springworks in June 2021.

Let’s take a peek inside the life of a Software Development Engineer!

What do you do as a Software Engineer at Springworks?

I am currently working for the Burst team where my role mainly circles around handling the backend code and infrastructure of the entire project. I am also responsible for implementing new additional features as and when required along with fixing bugs that tend to pop up in our existing codebase.

How has your learning curve improved as a part of Springworks?

Springworks allows me to explore further into depths of backend engineering. I am entirely responsible for all tasks assigned to me, including planning, development, and eventually deployment. This helps me to improve on my technical skills and also focus on my personal growth.

Walk us through a day in the life of Mohit!

  • I log in about 10 a.m. and begin my day by scanning the team channel for any important updates that I may have missed since I last logged in.
  •  If I have something leftover from the previous day, my first priority is to complete it; if not, I open Jira to view the tickets allocated to me, select the one with the highest priority, and then begin working on it.
  • Once completed, I update the ticket, contact the QAs, and advise them of the progress so that they may test it and release it to production.
  • Then there are ad hoc assignments or phone calls when I assist my colleagues with their problems or seek their assistance with work assigned to me.

Which is your favorite product amongst our two apps, Trivia & EngageWith?

I like both the tools equally, but I use EngageWith more than trivia; it allows me to express my gratitude to my colleagues when they assist me, and it also encourages me to support my colleagues when they are in need.

What are the challenges that you face in your day to day work schedule?

The challenges exist with determining the best way to solve a problem. As a programmer, my goal is to build high-quality, bug-free code. The work I get is absolutely interesting, and it motivates me to keep going on a day-to-day basis.

Sneak-peek into your life outside Springworks!

Outside of Springworks, I enjoy traveling. I recently went on a workation in Coonoor with a few of my co-workers and had a great time!!
