Life at Springworks: A Day In the Life of a Product Specialist

Each day, everyone at Springworks comes into work with a true passion for building products and tools to simplify the lives of hiring and recruiting managers. We are artists, innovators, achievers, and dreamers, with a one-track mind to fine-tune the products that we build on the blockchain, achieving precision. We showcase our team members, their roles, and what a typical day looks like for them through this series of posts. You can check all the posts here

Junius D’silva joined Springworks in Sep 2019. Springworks is also the first-ever organization in Junius’ career.

He helps companies looking to transform their recruitment with our free-forever applicant tracking system – SpringRecruit and ensures they build reliable teams with SpringVerify and keep them motivated with EngageWith!

He also delivers demos to prospective customers to showcase the features, capabilities and value of the product.

Here is a discussion with Junius:

What is your job as a Product Specialist?

I work with both the Product and Development team to ensure excellent product delivery. With a wealth of knowledge about the product or range, I analyze market trends, develop sales and profitability strategies and recommend improvements for SpringRecruit. This requires strong customer service and analytical skills.

I also get involved in marketing from time to time, which is only restricted to the product, do email outreach and review the business agreements before the team rolls them out to a newly acquired customer.

What is it that you like the most about your work?

The best part is to be able to convince prospects of the true value of our product and how it will revolutionize the business from within. Offering a strong value proposition is the key to sales success and you should exactly know how to position and pitch a product to achieve maximum impact.

I tweak the demo sessions accordingly and make them interesting. Hearing from these people how they liked the demo is always encouraging.

It’s really tough to build a strong rapport with someone you’ve never looked in the eye, but being able to do it with just a few phone calls is a great experience.

Since SpringRecruit is a free product, do you still find it challenging to sell?

When I was first told to upsell SpringRecruit, I literally thought it was going to be like selling a piece of cake to kids, but turns out, selling a free product is as difficult as selling a product with a price.

The first question that any prospect asks is ‘Why is the product even free?’ and that’s totally normal because there are many similar products out there that cost a hefty amount.

Others have a misconception of a free product breaching the data privacy policy and intending to collect user data.

To overcome these challenges, we make sure to conduct exploratory calls to make sense of ‘why the product is free’ and explain our legal data policies. Since we are an ISO certified company, it’s easy to convince the prospects.

What is the Springworks team like?

Working here has been a pleasure. I love the fact that Springworks lets its employees explore opportunities within their job roles.

This is my first company and it has set a high benchmark for the type of organization I’d like to work at, if and when, I look out for another role with a different company

With an amazing work culture, comes great people here. Everyone is supportive and open to communication at any time.

What advice would you give to other Product Specialists?

Learn to say no to ad-hoc tasks. These are like the surprises popping up in the middle of your busy work week. Therefore, managing anything last-minute takes incredible patience and flexibility. But if there’s something important that you can’t say no to, similar to project work, you should also establish a target date for completion and track against that.
