Life at Springworks: A Day In The Life Of A QA Engineer

Meet Vikhyath, he is from Bengaluru, Karnataka. He completed his higher education at  Alva’s, Mangalore. Later on, he completed his Bachelor’s in Mechanical engineering from JSS college, Bengaluru. Then he joined a software testing course which helped him understand his interests and land an internship at Springworks. Keeping his career aside, he loves listening to music and playing the keyboard.

Let’s have a look at his journey!

What do you do as a QA Engineer at Springworks?

I joined Springworks as a Quality assurance intern in April 2022. Later, I got converted to a full-time employee in January 2023. Now, I work as a QA engineer for the SpringHire team. I work on several projects like Carbon collective, ReachTenants and many more.  My role as a QA engineer is to find out as many bugs and errors as possible in the application that we as a team are building. I try to make the products bug-free before it goes live to our customers.

What do you like the most about your work?

Working as a QA is like being a detective. It’s more related towards finding errors and eliminating them. I like finding and eliminating bugs in our application before it reaches our customers. This process makes our clients and customers happy. Finding out the edge cases in the application is something that I really enjoy doing as a QA.

Why did you choose Springworks and what excites you about working here?

I chose Springworks because of its amazing employee-centric policies which I think many other companies don’t offer to their employees. The perk of flexible work hours is the need of the hour. I have a great team to work with and there is something new every day to learn here. My list is endless when it comes to what excites me about my work and Springworks.

How was your Onboarding and Hiring process?

The entire process was smooth and streamlined. It was quick and most of the steps were hassle-free and had zero paperwork as everything was done online. After a brief telephonic round, I was assigned a small task which was followed by 3 rounds of interviews. Furthermore, I was introduced to my manager and the HR team via WhatsApp.

My buddy and manager meetings were held a few days before my joining date. It was nice to meet them and gain an understanding of my work. On my first day, I met my teammates and learned about the company, the systems and the tools we use. It was nice to receive Springworks goodies as part of the welcome kit and lunch on my first day.

Walk us through your day, Vikhyath

I wake up at 5.30 am and go for a jog. I come back home to refresh myself and then I start my work around 10 am. Firstly, I check my slack messages and then I complete the pending tickets if any. After which I pick up new tickets from the Azure board. During the day, I  attend stand-ups and discuss the progress/doubts/questions related to the project with my team. I usually log out around 7 pm and go out with my friends. Some Days I will have client meetings due to which work gets over between 9-10 pm. After work, I spend at least 30 mins on reading a book and then I sleep around 11 pm.

What have been your most significant learnings and challenges to date?

My biggest challenge was to find the edge cases in the applications. There are days and times when these edge cases go unnoticed and finding them and reproducing them is time-consuming and a bit challenging. But, there has been tremendous growth in terms of knowledge and my work. I have learned a lot of things and I still believe there is a lot more ahead.

What’s your personal favorite between EngageWith and Trivia?

I personally like Engagewith because it highlights a person’s hard work and efforts. An employee is appreciated and recognized by their peers for their exceptional work or for helping his/her teammate. These recognitions and rewards are given in the form of EW points which can be redeemed in the form of cash or coupons. I love this idea as it motivates the employee to do more rather than making them feel that all the work they do has zero recognition.

What has been your favorite moment at Springworks?

My favorite moment at Springworks has to be the company offsite. It was great to meet everyone in person and from cross-functional teams. We were able to bond and spark conversations. It was a pleasure meeting everyone.

Sneak – Peek into your life outside Springworks!

I spend my weekends and my free time traveling. I love traveling to new places and exploring their traditions and cultures. It’s always been my dream to visit all the seven wonders of the world. Hopefully, this happens soon 🙂
