ToggleTrivia at BetterQA - The success story
We got on a call with Sonia Stefan – Marketing Analyst and Recruiter at BetterQA to discuss their employee engagement challenges, how Trivia has helped break silos, and more. Read on.
Can you tell us a bit about BetterQA and what a typical work day looks like for you?
BetterQA is a company that does outsourced software testing. We have been in business since 2018 and primarily assist companies worldwide with quality testing for their software projects. My work day ranges from shortlisting candidates for open roles at BetterQA preparing them for the interview process and the post-interview formalities. I am also responsible for employee engagement at BetterQA. I am the admin for Trivia, and I ensure that we all get an adequate amount of fun while we are working.
What were the challenges that BetterQA faced for employee engagement?
Since our inception in 2018, we have been a remote-first company. We are a team of 50+ employees, and in a remote setup, you can easily fall into the trap of silos. Interaction is minimum, you do your work, communication on Slack is only work-related, and it tends to become a tad boring. Earlier, we used to share funny videos and memes, but that is just extra work. Like, for me, I need to search for it and then send it to the channel to try and get people to interact.
Whatever the setup, remote or hybrid, we are dealing with humans here, and humans need communication, interaction, and something to keep the energy and fun going while working.
We realized we needed a tool within Slack that would help us unwind, take that break from work, and bond with our teammates.
How has Trivia helped foster employee engagement?
Before Trivia, as I said, I and my teammate were responsible to start a conversation on the Slack channel by posting funny memes and videos. The automation part of employee engagement was missing. Our jobs, and daily routines, can get monotonous, and Trivia has helped us break that. Trivia has helped us create a work-happy culture. We take a break, geek about a lot of stuff, show off our knowledge in the quizzes, and try to outsmart each other. It’s so heartwarming to see everyone participating in the games and enjoying themselves. So, yeah, Trivia has surely helped us connect better and form a good bond.
How has the team at BetterQA taken to Trivia?
Oh, I get requests to restart another game. Honestly, Trivia is a blessing. We are able to humanize in a way that was not happening earlier. Like I love the Virtual Coffee feature, it’s a great way to break the ice. I have seen so many instances where the Virtual Coffee pairings have fostered strong bonds. We’ve seen people discussing topics outside of work. We have 3 scheduled games, and everyone looks forward to them. We have had internal calls put on hold just because the games are going to start. So, that’s the power of having a good and engaging tool.
Finally, what would you share about our customer support and user experience?
We like Trivia a lot. It is user-friendly, and we love the quizzes and the GIF charades. We like the new features, Virtual coffee is a great initiative. It has helped us bond beyond work, leading to fantastic work culture. I would vouch for the level of customer support, any queries or issues are resolved in a timely manner. Kudos to Trivia for making work fun!
